AUTOMATED MANUFACTURING CELL WITH ABB IRB 6700 – IRC5 ROBOTS
Description:
Integration of 3 ABB 6700 robots with Allen-Bradley PLCs, capable of performing 3 different applications: material handling, nut insertion, and spot welding.
Objective:
Develop and integrate a robotic cell consisting of three ABB robots for the automotive sector, designed to manufacture the A-pillar and B-pillar structural components of the Cadillac vehicle. The project involved the automation of material handling, spot welding, and automatic nut welding processes, ensuring the synchronization of operations, compliance with the customer’s quality standards, and the optimization of cycle times for efficient, safe, and repeatable production.
Participation:
PREPARATION AND PRE-COMMISSIONING:
Safety checks, mechanical installation, electrical connection, network connection, mechanical testing, and safe startup.
INITIAL COMMISSIONING:
System configuration, test movements, initial tool and workspace setups, fault and/or alarm reset, and setup of the servo gun and gripper.
CALIBRATION AND PROGRAMMING:
Mastering and calibration, loading OLP programs, adjustments to paths, speed, precision, and smoothness, integration with PLCs and peripherals.
TESTING AND VALIDATION:
Application testing, production testing, verification of program logic and compliance with GESTAMP’s programming standards, testing of safety zones (safe move), Allen-Bradley safety light curtains and scanners, and safety shutdown testing.
DELIVERY AND TRAINING:
Documentation of the programs for the three robots, basic training on ABB robots for maintenance personnel, and handover of the commissioning process.
